WORKING AFTER GRADUATION
Since Taiwan is a modern country and welcomes talents from all over the world, many international students wish to work in Taiwan after graduation. In order to attract and retain outstanding international students, Taiwanese government lowers restrictions for international students to remain after graduation and allows foreign graduates to extend their stay in Taiwan from 6 months to a year. We believe that international students who graduate from Taiwanese universities have gain a certain level of understanding of Taiwanese culture, an adaption to the environment, and better language abilities. Thus, they should be given priority and a longer time to seek employment in Taiwan. The bill allows international students to extend their stay for 6 months right after graduation. If international students are in the middle of a job search or need more time to complete their work permit application, they can apply for another six-month extension.
Furthermore, considering that foreign and overseas Chinese students have studied in Taiwan and they have learned Taiwanese culture and language to some extent, the government and business should first employ them to stay and work in Taiwan.
Thus, the Ministry of Labor has announced new scoring criteria since July 3, 2014. Instead of the amount of wage, the employer and foreign and overseas Chinese student will be assessed based on eight criteria, including education, salary, work experience, Chinese and other language proficiency, background, and collaborative support for governmental industrial developmental policies, etc. The Ministry of Labor(https://www.wda.gov.tw/en/) will distribute employment permits to those who score above 70 points.
